the statue of S. Marco, celebrated in San Marco d'Alunzio.
the procession of St. Giacomo in Capizzi.

On the 5th of July the martyrdom of S. Febronia is celebrated at Patti. The feast, (called "a fera" the fair, as once it was celebrated together with the feast of the livestock), starts with the procession of the figure of the saint. Balconies are decorated with sheets and blankets on which the image of the saint is displayed. As the procession goes by people strew petals on the way. The typical sweets prepared during this feast are the "cardinals" and the "abbess pastry".

The patron saint of Condrò is S. Vito Martyr. Usually the saint's day in on June 15, but the village celebrates it on the second Sunday of July with an afternoon procession of the statue and with the dance of S. Vito. Bearers carry the statue with a dancing step. Very traditional is the way they walk for the last hundreds meters: it's a one hour walk, in fact, they go three steps forward and one step backward, so it's one step at a time. Condrò is the only place where the rite of the dance still remains.

Santa Maria Salina celebrates the homonymous saint on the 17th of July. It is said that while Venetian sailors were carrying the relics from Bithynia to Venice, they were caught in a storm and managed to land on the island thanks to a log of olive wood. Since thten S. Marina became the patron saint.

At Roccalumera, on the Sunday after the 16, a special ceremony devoted to the Madonna del Carmelo takes place: people, in honour of the Virgin go on a sea pilgrimage. The procession ends with the blessing of fishermen and their boats.
A land procession takes place on the following Sunday. The Madonna del Carmelo is celebrated also at Barcellona pozzo di Gotto, Pettineo, Castroreale, Sant'Alessio Siculo, San Filippo del Mela, Santa Teresa de Riva, Scaletta Zanclea and Venetico Marina. On the 23th Leni celebrates the patroness, the Madonna del Terzino.

San Giacomo reached Capizzi with the Aragonese. The town chose him as the patron saint to thank him for the prosperous periodthey had under the Aragonese dominion. Celebrations start on the 22th with the procession of Aragonese standard from the church of S. Giacomo to the ruins of the castle where there once was a chapel. In the afternoon also the authorities take part in the procession. On the way back the Aragonese standard will be exposed on the bell tower of the church of S. Giacomo. On the 26th, together with the standard, the processional array will be carried to piazza dei Miracoli where it will be used as a battering-ram to demolish a small construction. According to popular traditions on that side there was a temple devoted to Cybele which was destroyed by the saint to witness the victory of Christianity against paganism. Even Messina on the 24th and 25th celebrates the saint.

The first church devoted to S. Giacomo was behind the apse of the cathedral: since 1666 the cult was transferred to the church of S. Maria Incoronata at Camaro Superiore, a village apart from Messina.
From the 23th to the 26th Floresta celebrates S. Anna. It is said that the town contended with Centuripe (Enna) for the saint. In order to keep her on their own side, the two villages organised a contest attaching a rope at two bovines. The animal that pulled harder would be the winner. The inhabitants of Centuripe used an ox, those of Floresta a cow that had recently calved and whose calf had been brought away. The cow won because the anger for the loss of her calf gave her more strength. S. Anna is celebrated at Malvagna as well.

San Marco d'Alunzio is devoted to three patron saints: Marco, Nicola and Basilio. Celebrations date back from the 1500 when the Greek part of the population, who worshipped S. Nicola, argued with the Latin population, who worshipped S. Marco, after whom the town was named. The quarrel came to an end only during the 1700 when both the saints were elected as patrons. Although such a situation carried on because in the town many people venerated S. Basilio of Cesarea. There were many basilian monasteries in the territory, so they made the celebrations coincide and S. Basilio became a patron as well. But the former patron remains S. Marco as it is evidenced during the procession when S. Nicola respectfully leaves the right side to him. Celebrations start on July 29 and end on August 2. events include thte preparation of the "cuddure", doughnut shaped offering bread; the torches procession, which are candles two meters high, decorated with ribbons and carried by women; and the laurel parade.
